What is a GMO?
Scientists work with farmers to artificially add genes to improve crops. This is bioengineering and the resulting organisms are called Genetically Modified Organisms or GMOs.
Tap on the Bioengineering Issues Cards and print. Cut out and sort so that you match:
One Issue card with its Solution card and Results card to see why people use GMO organisms to solve problems with foods.
Next, read about Agriculture in the text book, which includes more information about GMOs.
Read the textbook Life Science Essentials section on Agriculture, watch the video in the book, and answer the questions to practice what you know. If you get stuck, you can chat with Lexi the ai chatbot or ask your teacher.
Access the full textbook features of Life Science Essentials through the Google Classroom* under the Classwork tab (see screenshot). This opens the Cellular Respiration section of the ck-12 Flexbook online.
