Butterfly lab

This multi-day activity measures the flow of matter and energy between primary producer (butterfly food) and first-level consumer (Painted Lady caterpillars).

Painted Lady butterflies migrate throughout Europe, Asia, Africa, and North America. Therefore they can be raised at home or in a lab and released in limited quantities in these areas without significantly affecting the ecosystem balance.
